Frequently Asked Questions About Roll-off Dumpsters

Can I move the dumpster to a different location if I have the equipment to do so?2026-06-14T18:31:57-05:00

No. We ask that once a dumpster has been set, please leave it in that position until it is serviced. Moving a dumpster can result in the dumpster getting damaged, property getting damaged, or it being placed in such a way that becomes impossible for us to pick up. If you need us to move the dumpster to a new spot, please let us know so that we can schedule a driver to complete that movement for you at our earliest available time.

What if someone else fills my dumpster with their debris?2026-06-14T18:29:24-05:00

We do not condone other people filling dumpsters that do not belong to them. Unfortunately, we have seen this experience happen a number of times. When renting a container, that dumpster is the responsibility of the person or company that has rented it. When it comes time to pick up the dumpster, we ask that you level the container off as much as possible so that we can haul it safely, even if someone else has wrongfully placed their debris inside.

How much can I put in the dumpster?2026-06-14T18:28:30-05:00

You can put as much as you can fit into the dumpster as long as you are within the bounds of the container, at or below the top rim / fill line of the container, and the door is able to be shut and latched properly. We will not service the container if we cannot access it for any number of reasons, if it is filled over the top, if items are hanging over the sides of the dumpster, if it cannot be tarped, if it is deemed unsafe by the driver, or if we notice prohibited items in it. If we encounter any of these problems when trying to service your dumpster, we will do our best to get in touch with you. We try very hard to resolve these problems while still there; leaving the site without completing our work is our last resort and something we try to avoid, as it often results in a failed trip fee for you.

Same-day service can occasionally be arranged, depending on our schedule. Our average turnaround time is within 24 hours. Please note that we do not operate on weekends.

Does the dumpster have a lid?2026-06-14T18:22:05-05:00

Can I put a lock on the dumpster?2026-06-14T18:21:39-05:00

You can put a lock on the dumpster, as long as you remove it prior to pickup. If the lock remains on the dumpster when we go to pick it up, KC Dumpster reserves the right to cut the lock and remove it.

Does the dumpster have a door?2026-06-14T18:21:08-05:00

All dumpsters in our inventory have a door on the back side of the container. You can open and shut the door at your convenience to go in and out of the dumpster. Please note that the dumpster door must be shut and latched prior to driver arrival for the pickup.

Can I put yard waste in the dumpster?2026-06-14T18:20:39-05:00

Yard waste such as tree limbs, grass clippings, bushes, leaves, and untreated logs are allowed in the dumpster. However, please note that it can be the only type of debris in the dumpster. It cannot be mixed with trash, dirt, concrete, or any other type of waste. A tree’s root ball is NOT allowed in the dumpster.

What is prohibited in the dumpster?2026-06-14T18:20:16-05:00

KC Dumpster strictly prohibits the following items in their containers: tires, paint, hazardous waste, batteries, chemicals, fireworks, and refrigerators or freezers that contain the substance freon. Can I put the dumpster in my yard?2026-06-14T18:19:44-05:00

KC Dumpster does not typically allow dumpsters to be set in the yard. It is solely up to the discretion of the company. If we do set it in the yard, it needs to be set in such a way that it can be reached by the truck from a solid surface (i.e., pavement, concrete, or even gravel).

Will the dumpster fit in my driveway?2026-06-14T18:19:01-05:00

Our dumpsters fit in most standard driveways. If your driveway has retaining walls on both sides, or if it has a severe slant to it, our driver may recommend setting the dumpster elsewhere if available.

Yes. KC Dumpster charges for dumpsters prior to delivery and once the order is processed in our database, we will send a receipt to the email address you have provided.

Why can’t I order a dumpster rental online?2026-06-14T18:25:43-05:00

There are many factors that go into an order, from sizing to placement to contact information. In addition to those details, we love to offer our customers a personal experience. When you call us, you won’t get an automated response or have to push any numbers to speak with a representative. You will get an actual person who will get your dumpster needs resolved as quickly as we can.

How long do I get to keep the dumpster?2026-06-14T18:26:07-05:00

Our standard dumpster rental is 7 calendar days.

Will the dumpster mess up my driveway?2026-06-14T18:26:44-05:00

Our team of skilled drivers is dedicated to making sure your dumpster delivery and pickup experience goes over without a hitch. When renting a piece of equipment with as much size and as much weight as a dumpster, there is always an innate risk of minor dings and markings. You do have the option of ordering Driveway Protection – wheel coverings that help prevent dumpster sliding – for an additional $50 when you order a container. You can also opt lay down your own protection (e.g., plywood) on your driveway. Just be sure to let us know if that’s the case so our driver knows that’s where to place it!

Do I need to be home for dumpster delivery or dumpster pickup?2026-06-14T18:27:29-05:00

You don’t need to be present at the time we are completing a dumpster delivery, swap, or pickup. If you are unable to be present, we do ask that (a) you are accessible via phone call in case our driver has any questions or concerns, (b) you have provided our team with as much information to set the dumpster in the desired place, and (c) there are no vehicles or other items blocking access to the location you want the dumpster to be set. If you take the length of our truck and add the length of the dumpster and the hook that sets it onto the ground, we typically need 55-60 feet of clearance to be able to get the job done in an efficient manner. That said, please notify our team if there is a ditch across from your driveway, and if you have that one neighbor that loves to park behind your drive, it may be worthwhile to notify them of your delivery so that we don’t have any concerns during our delivery.

When can I get the dumpster?2020-06-03T20:06:18-05:00

We try our very best to service customers within about 24 hours. During high-volume periods of the year, the wait might be longer, but we will definitely try our best to secure you a can and get it to you as fast as possible! We deliver between 7 AM and 4:30 PM. Same-day service can occasionally be arranged, depending on our schedule.

Where can I put the dumpster?2020-06-03T20:04:58-05:00

The dumpster will be placed on your driveway unless otherwise instructed. It is our company policy not to put containers in yards or non-paved areas, as rain can make it nearly impossible to get the dumpster back out, and we really don’t want to damage your or other people’s properties—or risk our truck getting stuck! We are required by law to leave space between our dumpster and buildings, as well as our dumpsters and streets. If you think the dumpster will not fit in your driveway and/or you want to place the dumpster across a sidewalk, on the street, or on other public property, you will need to check to see if your city requires a permit.
<p>If you will not be on site when we deliver the dumpster, please make sure you have clearly communicated where you want it, or clearly mark the spot with cones or plywood.

What is the best way to fill the dumpster?2020-06-03T20:04:15-05:00

We recommend that you pack the debris in a way that best reduces wasted space. Heavy material should be at the bottom of the container and should be spread evenly throughout. The top of the dumpster is the loading line; nothing should go past it, as it becomes a hazard for both our drivers and other people on the road. We are required by law to cover the dumpster with a tarp before transporting it; if we are unable to for whatever reason, we reserve the right to have offloaded anything we cannot transport, or the right to leave the dumpster altogether and charge a trip fee. We will always do our best to let you know if we run into any situations like this.

What is allowed in the dumpster?2026-04-29T11:31:30-05:00

Most trash is allowed in the dumpster. As stated above, heavy materials (dirt, concrete, brick, etc.) are relegated to 20-yard containers and must not be mixed with trash or other materials. Yard waste is acceptable in containers but also cannot be mixed with trash or other materials. It is illegal to mix trash with yard waste. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in additional charges.

You CANNOT put these items in the dumpster:

  • Paint
  • Tires
  • Appliances with freon
  • Flammable, toxic, or other hazardous materials

If a driver finds these materials in a dumpster, they can be left onsite or additional charges may be added to your bill. The maximum weight of the container cannot exceed 10 tons; dumpsters that are too heavy and unsafe can either be rejected by the driver, resulting in a failed trip fee, or will result in overage fees of $55/ton for each ton over 10. Please see our terms and conditions for further details.

What size of dumpster should I get?2026-06-14T18:23:15-05:00

We require a 20-yard dumpster to be used for heavy debris such as rock, concrete, dirt, mud, and brick. If you are doing a large-scale construction project, we recommend a 40-yard dumpster. For garage and basement cleanouts, we often see 20 and 30-yard dumpsters being sufficient. No matter what your project, we have found that if you are unsure, getting a larger dumpster is oftentimes a safer option, as it’s much easier to add things you aren’t suspecting rather than have too much debris that won’t fit.

What are your payment methods for dumpster rental?2026-06-14T18:17:08-05:00

We accept all forms of credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard. Discover, American Express, and more. You will be charged prior to the delivery of the dumpster. This is a flat fee; there is no added dump charge unless there are prohibited items in the container or the container is over 10 tons, at which point you may incur a penalty charge.
